Model profile
BMW M began with the M1 and the E28 M5, but the cars US buyers chase today start with the E46 M3 (2001–2006) and its high-revving S54 straight-six. The E90/E92/E93 M3 (2008–2013) is the outlier — the only M3 with a V8, the 4.0-litre S65.
Powertrain and equipment
